Over the ear

bluetrek_ufo.jpg

The Bluetrek UFO is a uniquely designed Bluetooth headset that fits on the ear and almost completely covers it. It features a new voice alert system that reminds you of actions like reject call, redial, and when your headset needs to be charged.

The Bluetrek UFO will standby for up to 8 days, or will get you about 6 hours of talk time. It features DSP and echo cancellation for better call quality.

For anyone who hates sticking stuff in their ears, but wants a Bluetooth headset, the Bluetrek UFO will be a good choice. The Bluetrek UFO is available in the UK for £49.99.

I4U checks out the one of the newer headsets from Plantronics in the Voyager 520 review. The headset garners a very good 8 out of 10 rating for a number of reasons including easy pairing, great audio quality, and noise canceling. The Plantronics Voyager 520 is slightly larger than other Bluetooth headsets, but seems to more than make up for it in quality, ease-of-use, and battery life.

The Gadgeteer has posted a very thorough Plantronics 665 Bluetooth headset review. The reviewer includes samples of the Plantronics 665’s voice quality and lots of closeup pictures for those of you who like to visualize things before you buy them.

Although the noise filtering features were not quite as good as the Aliph Jawbone, the much smaller size of the Plantronics 665 Bluetooth headset made up for that fact. At the same time, battery life is also decreased with size, allowing for only 3.5 hours of talk.

The new Oticon Epoq hearing aids can communicate wirelessly via a handheld streamer with any Bluetooth device. This means that the Epoq hearing aids will “ring” in your ear and allow you to use your cell phone without any of the special devices usually needed for this purpose. Because sound information is being continuously exchanged between the two ears, Oticon says that this will keep the two in sync and, when it comes to outside sounds, help localize where a sound is coming from.

Digital Trends has reviewed the Aliph Jawbone, finding it to be an excellent headset. The reviewer found it stylish, but at the same time a perfect fit with all the included ear gels and earhooks. Voice quality was crystal clear, but the reviewer found that improper placement of the headset could result in inconsistencies in sound quality. However, when fit properly the Aliph Jawbone was a clear winner.

As Bluetooth stereo headsets get smaller and smaller, Philips keeps it on the larger side with their over the ear headset. TechDigest has their Philips SHB6102 review posted and comes to the conclusion that these particular headphones might sound great, but will also tire out your ears after an extended period of time. Apparently the volume level also suffers a bit, so if you like your music to bump you may want to look elsewhere.

This one isn’t for everyone, but if you are a pilot you may find the LoPresti CLEARBLUE Bluetooth wireless headset a great addon for your airplane. The headset uses a software dubbed “Intuition” that prioritizes between four simultaneously connected devices. These are, in order from lowest to highest priority, iPod, cell phone, intercom, and radio communication. Your basic iPod functions can be controlled directly from the headset and play is automatically paused and resumed when interrupted. Look for the LoPresti CLEARBLUE near the end of the year.
